One of the world’s most famous disasters was the eruption of a volcano near Pompeii. Pompeii was a Roman city on top of a hill. Little did the Romans know that the hill they were on was a volcano called Mount Vesuvius. Pompeii was famous for its grapes, so when their grapes started dying they knew something was wrong. Then ashes started spewing out of the volcano. Some Romans left, others stayed. Lots of people lost their lives because they didn’t leave. The volcano erupted.
